Images on Coflein

The Coflein system enables direct online public access to many images from the holdings of the National Monuments Record of Wales Archive, including “born digital” photography, scanned hard-copy drawings and photographs, as well as .PDF versions of survey reports and other text documents. The volume and scope of the digital records available via Coflein are growing steadily, both through our active, in-house programme to digitise selected archive images and the Royal Commission’s ongoing production of digital survey records; together with the accession of externally donated material, much of which is now being supplied in digital format.

If you wish to search exclusively for online images relating to sites, simply set the Search only for sites with online images box to “yes” when conducting a text search.

Alternatively, any available online images will be displayed when you click on the Images online button which appears above the Archive Collection Summary for a particular site.

Where online records exist, these will also be displayed when you open individual collection references for such records from the Archive Collection Summary.

Only screen resolution versions of images are directly available via Coflein, but high quality versions, either in digital format or hard-copy, can be ordered from Library and Reader Services, subject to a small fee for reproduction and possible copyright charges if the image is to be used for publication
