Charlie, age 5 sent us his fantastic drawing of Poncysyllte "Aqueduck"!

  • The Aqueduck, by Charlie age 5

Mr M Wynne Griffith has written to tell us:

"During World War 2 I was living...only a mile or so from the

aqueduct...my father joined the Local Defence Volunteers...Their duty

was to guard the aqueduct to prevent the enemy making use of it... the

putlog holes on the south pier of the northernmost arch were opened and

we always understood that demolition charges were to be placed there if

the threat became very real. I do not know if any of the other arches

had the same treatment because we never walked under them."

These are some of the positive comments the Commission has received from viewers .

"What a brilliant start to the series; excellent narrative, superb graphics and stunning camerawork. Must be up for awards!

"Many congratulations to you and all involved."

"I thought that the Pontcysyllte segment deserved its own half-hour. Then again, television news and documentaries often leave me somewhat exasperated. The second segment was somewhat anticlimactic; the third was exciting, even though the historical implications were only hinted at. Handsomely produced."

"It was really good to watch, really interesting! We will be glued to the rest of the series.
I have very much enjoyed the Commission television series so far – fascinating."

"We enjoyed the programme last week and look forward to tomorrow evening. You are so cool, all of you. It’s very good to see you all being hailed as heroes and experts. We are fed up with mere celebrities with no knowledge. You shine in both areas. More please."

"Congratulations on excellent programmes...a breath of fresh air..."

"Congratulations on the series. First episode much enjoyed and very informative. The modelling for Pontcysyllte was fascinating. You and your colleagues also come across as very relaxed on TV."

"Just a quick message of appreciation for the excellent TV programme last Tuesday, well done. I thought your selection of topics from such a huge range of possibilities was excellent and it all came across very positively and in an engaging way."

"I have been meaning to email you to congratulate you and RCAHM generally on the Hidden Histories series. I am enjoying it immensely. I don't want to make your head expand, but you do come across very naturally on camera. I was v disappointed there was no message deciphered on Eliseg's pillar! Well done to you and all in RCAHM on the series...v imaginative, and one to follow up again I'm sure."

"We were all very impressed with the quality of work your computer model specialist in the series. His work is really impressive."

"We look forward to the next programme. More please."

"Many congratulations on an excellent programme. It’s a well-deserved acknowledgement of the Commission staff’s expertise and ability to communicate. We are tired of presenters with little or no knowledge of the subject and no sign of research or preparation."

"I've seen two of the programmes (will catch others on Iplayer) and think they're excellent."

"I was VERY pleased indeed. It came over as enthusiastic and informative, yet at the same time very natural in manner."
